A very interesting, under the radar IPO is that of TPG, at one time Texas Pacific Group. One of the prolific Private Equity firms that were the impetus of the PE industry, TPG will go public on Jan 13th and generate $9.5 billion for its founders. A traditional PE partnership now going public in a C-Corp format, (unlike the Blackstone approach at IPO as an LP). It's worth taking a look, as a long-term play. We like it in our proprietary portfolio, and look as a max entry at around $34.
While as advisors we generaly are not stock pickers, we do in fact use individual stocks in our prioprietary portfolios, and use them in client portfolios to both satisfy specific themes and take advantage of certain growth or value opportunities.
